Vessel Emergency Response Plan

Vessel Emergency Response

It is very important that if you are headed out on a ship or you are on a ship that you understand the vessel emergency response plan. Having a vessel emergency response plan is key to making sure that if you have an accident at sea, everyone knows their place and what to do so that everyone can get off the boat safe and in the best position to survive. It is not only key to have a plan in mind, but on commercial vessels it is actually part of the law that everyone knows what to do in the case of an emergency.

Vessel emergency response plans should be written ahead of time and spelled out. There should be a whole process on what to do in the event of emergencies that should happen and could happen to a ship. Everyone on the ship needs to be aware of what is going on, so you will want to thoroughly train the crew, and make sure that everyone understands what their job is in case of an emergency. Being on the water can be very dangerous, and being properly prepared for it is a necessity.
Besides have a plan, there are also pieces of equipment that you will want to have handy in case an emergency hits. With some of the vessel tracking software and the monitoring systems that are available, you’ll be able to notify someone sooner if something is wrong with the boat. These systems can help warn the proper authorities that help is needed upon the vessel. Aside from these, you’ll always have transmitters on board that will send an emergency signal and get picked up by the Coast Guard, or whatever search and rescue may be in the area.

Be sure that you have a vessel emergency response plan filled out for your vessel, and be sure that everyone truly understands how the response plan works and what their job is. With emergency beacons, radios, and other electronic devices, you will want to take a look at what is available out there while you are asea.
