AP - Federal prosecutors played secretly taped phone conversations Friday to show jurors that a former Navy sailor charged with leaking ship movements to suspected terrorism supporters used coded speech to discuss intelligence about military bases.

Attorney: Mother of slain 6-year-old San Jose boy was also a victim of abusive boyfriend

A San Jose woman who admitted endangering her 6-year-old son and then covering up his murder was a classic victim of a manipulative and abusive boyfriend, according to defense witnesses who are testifying today in a sentencing hearing for 38-year-old Kathryn Jimenez.

Former Army Official, Contractor Sentenced in Public Corruption Case

Jeffrey H. Stayton, of Spotsylvania, Virginia, the former Chief of Aviation Division for the U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command, and William C. Childree, of Enterprise, Alabama, a private contractor, were sentenced to federal prison in connection with charges arising from participation in an honest services wire fraud scheme and a related obstruction of justice.

Texas Naval Air Station Employee Sentenced on Bribery Charge

Edward E. Villarreal, of Corpus Christi, Texas, was sentenced to one year in prison for accepting a $5,000 bribe while he was employed as an engineer technician in the Public Works Department at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi.

Texas Man Pleads Guilty to Credit Card Fraud

Sharif J. Reid, of League City, Texas, admitted he participated in a 17-month conspiracy with several other individuals, including his wife, to commit credit card fraud through the use of counterfeit credit cards. Through this scheme, Reid and his wife obtained $1 million in fraudulent proceeds.

Two New Jersey Cardiologists Guilty of Embezzlement Charges

Dr. Bakul Desai, of Livingston, New Jersey, and Dr. Laxmipathi Garipalli, of Colts Neck, New Jersey, both of whom are private practice cardiologists, pled guilty to embezzling approximately $840,000 in salary from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey while providing no meaningful services in return, other than referring cardiac patients.

Wisconsin Man Pleads Guilty to Conveying Terrorism Hoax

Jake J. Brahm, of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, pled guilty in Newark, New Jersey to conveying a terrorism hoax for his repeated posting of an internet message claiming that terrorists would detonate radioactive dirty bombs at football stadiums in seven states, including New Jersey.

California Fugitive Apprehended in Nicaragua
